FormFaces Licensing Options
FormFaces is Open Source software, freely distributed by Progeny Systems Corporation with the objective of building an open standard implementation that many companies and individuals can collaborate on that none could achieve alone. We are dedicated to promoting the community to use, study, copy, modify, and redistribute FormFaces. The open-source model has an overwhelming advantage for our customers, specifically not being legally locked-in. Because anyone can gain access to source, they’re not at the mercy of unfixed bugs, can easily extend the code for other purposes, and in the end, be in control of their own destiny.

The goals of FormFaces licensing decisions are to:
  • Accelerate adoption of the XForms standard
  • Eliminate legal entanglements
  • Improved security, reliability, capability and performance through community collaboration

FormFaces is dual-licensed, both Open Source and freely distributed, BSD and Commercial licenses. The BSD license provides a simple, well known model that can be used for commercial distribution. The Commercial license is to provide clauses required by special acquisition communities across commercial, federal and military communities. Though sounding significantly different, both licenses allow:
  • Commercial use without legal entanglements
  • Rights to make new products and derivative works
  • Derivative development without requiring users to contribute back, although we encourage this so that all can benefit from community development

Please address any questions regarding FormFaces licensing to Gary Sikora, FormFaces Product Manager.

Contributors License

To ensure users of FormFaces of no ambiguities or hidden liabilities regarding the use of FormFaces code, all contributors are required to provide signed Contributor License Agreements.

To contribute to FormFaces, we require that you sign a Contributor License Agreement (CLA). The purpose of this agreement is to ensure that developments can be integrated and used under FormFaces’ Open Source and freely distributed licenses.

The CLA doesn't require that you are give the copyright of the code to Progeny Systems Corporation, just a license to that copyright and any applicable patents that you may hold. Ensuring that all the code in FormFaces is “clean” means that others can use FormFaces in commercial and Open Source projects without hesitation. To this end, we ask anyone that wishes to contribute code to FormFaces to complete a CLA

Please address any questions regarding FormFaces CLA licensing to Gary Sikora, FormFaces Product Manager.
